Azerbaijani political analyst: I think the sides came closer in the Chisinau meeting

Roundtable “Chisinau summit: Nagorno Karabakh conflict expectations” has been held today, APA reports. The event was organized by Humanitarian Studies Society. Director of the society Avaz Hasanov said there had been great expectations from this summit, but no serious step was taken for the solution to the conflict, there still were a number of contradicting statements. Taking a stance on the reopening of Turkey-Armenia borders, Hasanov said it was impossible to predict the results of the negotiations.
“Turkey says it has done its best for the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. They are taking planned steps under present circumstances,” he said.

Political analyst Rasim Musabayov said the sides were expected to sign documents before the Chisinau meeting.
“But is did not take place. But positive atmosphere was observed at the meeting. I think the sides came closer,” he said.

Political analyst Elkhan Mehdiyev said Minsk Group’s proposal on holding referendum in Nagorno Karabakh actually served the separation of that territory from Azerbaijan.
“International organizations ignore Azerbaijan’s proposal to hold the referendum throughout the country,” he said.

Head of “Inam” Pluralism center Vahid Gazi said it was expected that Turkey would normalize its relations with Armenia.
“When Justice and Development Party was established, Turkey was hostile towards four countries. After the party came to power, relations were normalized with Greece and then with Syria. Now similar process has begun with respect to Armenia. Turkey has been bearing the load of Azerbaijan for 15 years and it was expected that one day it will put its load down,” he said.

The other participants of the roundtable also expressed their views on the theme.
